Ranges from the west coast to Natal. Concentrated in temperate areas of southern and western Cape (Ref. 6581). Young moves to Natal during winter and spring while adult may be encountered there throughout the year (Ref. 6581). Status of stock indeterminate (Ref. 4332). Caught in Natal shark nets and by game fishers off the Cape (Ref. 4332). Angling record: 753 kg, spearfishing record: 127.2 kg (Ref. 12484). Also Ref. 247, 13574, 43278.
